Techie Tuesday: Enable Calendar on Gmail

Hi all. I hope your beginning of the week is running smoothly. I know we are all in full swing of things this year. Today's techie tip is based on requests from teachers at my school who missed the outlook calendar when we migrated to gmail. Well...you are in luck. You can still embed a side calendar on gmail. Just follow these simple steps. Hope someone out there finds this helpful. :)

I figured that pictures were the best way to show this tutorial.

It's as easy as that! Have a wonderful Tuesday!

Sunday Scoop September 27th

Sunday is here and so is Fall. Take some time to relax today and spend time with your loved ones. This post is short and sweet because my husband's family is in town from New York and we are having a day filled with games, chats, and relaxing together. I hope your Sunday is just as restful. You all sure deserve it!

Five for Friday {September 25th}

I cannot believe that next week it will be October. This year is absolutely flying by. I am linking up with the incredible Doodle Bugs Teaching for another installment of Five for Friday. This is a great way to reflect on the week and pick of amazing ideas from other teachers. Make sure to head over to read what is happening all around the country.
I am in love with this apple pie recipe based on the one found here on allrecipes.com. The only changes I made was to add a pinch of salt and heaping tsp. of cinnamon into the sweet caramel sauce, and added lemon juice to the sliced apple mixture. The caramel apple filling is mouth-watering! Believe me folks...this is a MUST try!

I am loving using chromebooks with our 4th and 5th grade students in Digital Media. They are learning how to use Google Apps for Education to enhance collaboration and communication. They are doing such a great job and I cannot wait to see them continue to build responsible digital footprints this year! Check out my post on using the Google research tool from this week's Techie Tuesday for more information (Click the Techie Tuesday Button image for the full post).
Loving my neon pre-sharpened pencils! I added a little love, inspiration, or encouragement on each one. I use a fine tip sharpie to write things like "You are amazing!" "Keep up the great work." Always choose to be kind." "Be the change you wish to see in the world. " "Smile." If you are looking for things to write...think Kid President. My kids in the library love to read what is on these pencils. Simple way to spread joy...

I am loving white nails. Tried OPI Funny Bunny and it is beautiful. I also got this fun package from Christi Futz from and can't wait to try my first Jamberry sample. Wish me luck! Any tips for getting these on and having them last?

I am excited about this NEW read that I have heard great things about! The sub-title alone does it for me (fighting for grade in a world of impossible standards). I cannot wait. What's on your reading list?

Fall Freebie

Happy 1st Day of Fall! It's my absolute favorite season... minus the few days of winter around Christmas. The crisp air, apples, cozy blankets, and spicy scents. Oh, I just love it! I am posting a quick freebie. I use this in the library to display Fall books and it's always nice to have fun themed bookmarks to go with them.

Techie Tuesday: Google Research Tool

Our district migrated over to Google Apps for Education and I am loving every minute of it. I have made the personal switch to creating all of my lessons using Google Slides instead of PowerPoint and using Google classroom to share with my students. This week we have been exploring the Google research tool feature. Let me explain this tool in all its glory.

In order to use this feature, you must be in Google Docs or Google Slides.
I had my students conduct mini biographical sketches using the Research tool to answer the who, what, where, when, and why about a famous leader in history.
Their favorite part was learning how to use the insert link and cite buttons to build footnotes with the resources they used for this mini research.
You can also use the add-on Easy Bib Citation Creator (in Google Docs) to insert a bibliography into any Google Doc...I wish I had this when I went to school.

Click here for your own copy of the Leader Exploration Google Doc. You can make your own copy to use with your class.

Other tools for citation generators are listed below:
1. EasyBib
Also available as a google add-on and extension.

2. Cite this for Me
Also available as a google extension.

3. BibMe

Sunday Scoop: September 20

It's that time again...Sunday Scoop with Teaching Trio. Weekends just fly... I can't believe it is already Sunday. My parents are both teachers in Georgia and they are off for September vacation next week. I must admit that I think that sounds brilliant! Too made we don't have that up here in Illinois. Sigh... Here's the scoop today. I am ready for some football and apple pie at my brother's request. Baking for me is a stress reliever with great rewards. I am excited for this day ahead. Let's go Patriots!

Don't forget this week's bible verse. Click here to view this FREEBIE.

Five for FRIDAY

It's Friday! Hallelujah. Waking up on Fridays is always just a bit easier... Oh what a week. This is my first time linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching and I could not be more excited about this blog. I am going to share 5 random things from this week. This was a picture of our circulation counter this morning in the library. We had a half day and were busy every second! I love that we have so many amazing readers at our school. They sure keep me busy! :)

I like to treat myself to a little Starbucks on Friday and we have a 7:45 staff meeting this morning, so I think that extra shot of espresso will help do the trick!

We celebrated International Dot Day in the library this week and all the Kindergarteners loved making their own dot bookmarks. I use this story to remind all kids that we each can make a mark and a difference. What a great message and reminder!

Pumpkin spice is in the air. I could not resist buying half of the pumpkin flavored finds at Trader Joe's and make these adorable mini muffins to share with staff this week. Delish!
I finally finished my library prize box. I love how it turned out! I will be posting a blog all about how I use this in our library. It is a colorful addition that I am absolutely loving! :)

I am LOVING all my Erin Condren goodies this year. This package just arrived with my snap in post-it notes and little encouragement cards. I can't wait to use these this year. So worth every penny!

Make sure you check out some other happenings this Friday! TGIF...:)

Techie Tuesday: Undo Send an E-mail

Techie Tuesdays are back! I am excited to share a very useful tip for undo sending e-mails. We have all been there... you press send and completely forgot to attach something. Or you realized that you had a typo. Yikes! Much to my horror, I have sent many an e-mail that I wish I could just pull out of the cloud and fix... I was one happy girl when I figured out how to set this up in gmail. It has already been a lifesaver. I have a quick solution for you with a way to undo an e-mail for up to 30 seconds after it's sent using gmail.

1.  Click on the gear icon in the top right of your gmail account and select Settings.

2. On the general tab, scroll down to Undo Send section and select the drop down arrow to choose the allotted time. I have mine set to 30 seconds. I figure it gives me the best chance of catching my mistakes.

3. Make sure to scroll all the way to the bottom and save the changes when you are done.

I hope this way a quick and helpful tip. :)
